I believe that he is using Ubuntu to host a printer that is installed using USB. So VirtualBox USB support should not be an issue.

The only printer that I use at home is a network one so I have not configured any printer server stuff, it might be worth looking at samba configuration for the printer, again not sure where that is in Unity.

Also, found that VBox latest doeesn't do usb v well, so perhaps roll back to 4.2 or 4.4...?
VirtualBox printing

Right. Tried that and the connection still seems to be valid. At least I
can use MSIE under the VB/Windows program to see the Internet.

However looking for the printers still doesn't work although,
interestingly, the Windows failure notice is different. Instead of
saying that the printer doesn't exist or that the connection is wrong,
it now says that it cannot connect to that printer. It is almost as
though it can see the printer but is stopped from doing so.

Under Unity/Ubunutu you have to look around a bit for the System
Settings menu - it's under your username in the top right-hand corner
and took me ages to find.

I've taken another look at that and the printer stuff there and I've now
noticed that although I've clicked both printers as 'enabled' and
'shared' there is a notice that says 'not published see server settings'.

Not sure what I'm supposed to do about that but I shall keep ferreting
around.

Thanks for your time on this.
