I'll clarify and respond where possible.<br>
<br>
My reasoning is to ensure KLUG, in some form, continues. In order to
enable that my method was to introduce a "base-of-operations" with
which it could be affiliated with. Indeed, other avenues are worth
exploring as you mentioned, I was merely proposing what I could
provide. I appreciate your opinion, but I would also like some
evidence to detail why my idea is flawed, and if you have
alternatives then please detail them. What matters here, ultimately,
is what would be the best to keep KLUG going.<br>
<br>
What I can offer to form a base upon is a society. I will admit that
this is a duality however, I wanted to provide a brief overview of
the society operation as well as from elsewhere. There are items in
place with which to get the society up and running, something which
I am familiar with - including areas of concern. <br>
<br>
As particular items have been highlighted I will address them:<br>

To clarify on society expenditure on: equipment, meetings,
advertisement, and excursions are all common activities. From the
'student union' perspective, within reason, as long as expenditure
is to the benefit of the society (and agreed as such) then it's OK.
Again, as KLUG is affiliated its finances do not need to be managed
in such a way.<br>
<span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: arial, sans-serif;
font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal;

I would put it that non-student membership of a society can be
organised, and of course all the limitations and benefits that it
brings will be detailed in full before a decision is made by the
individual.<br>
<span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: arial, sans-serif;
font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal;
letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 16px; orphans: 2; text-align:

none; ">•</span><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family:

orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; text-indent: 0px;
text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2;

-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: rgb(255, 255,
255); font-size: small; display: inline !important; float: none; "></span>
As for the activity of a society, I agree. The society I run meets
twice a week in fact (with a Sunday or two every month) however,
that is not the focus of my method; indeed it's how the affiliation
and therefore continued existence of the KLUG community can be
achieved.<br>

Medway Student Association) so you suggesting the

you idea is flawed.</div>

<div>Strictly speaking we need to BE students. The "extra" £80
comes from University sponsorship, read "Grant" and comes
from SU funds. The use of the Society fund is
tightly governed as to what we can and can't spend the money
on and If we "Found" a UMSA society we need to ensure we
agree with those boundaries. Partically if we are allowing
Non-Students to join.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>There is nothing against us having our own funds and back

<div>When I was at UKC any Student Society, SU affiliated or

<div><br>
</div>
<div>The two that did not in the main were.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>UKCCU (The Christian Union) this was for
hmm Political Reason as they wanted to be able to have a
"Selected" or called officers rather than Elected as
required by SU "Rules" and also so they could spend there
money on hmm what they wanted to.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>The other was the "Computer Society" this was so they
could spend there money on Equipment ie computers rather
than meetings. but that was 12 years ago and things may have
changed.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I've got nothing against a Student Computer
Society afflicting its self with KLUG. and would like
to encourage them to do so and I am more than happy to
support that group in any way necessaries. If "MedComSoc" is
able to accept "Non Student Membership" then I'm more than
happy to join, so long the rules for it being part of the
UMSA are not too "onourus" and "Limiting"</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I've rather given up on ICMP as they were too
"Electronics" based for me and I wanted a group more
intrested in Computers!.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I would encourage, a MedComSoc to also look at other
big organisations such as ukuug, fsf and BCS - Kent Branch.
all of which have benifits.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>From what I can see currently as it stands Klug is fast
turning into an organisation and link of many "Societies",
to support and encourage the use of Free Software within
Kent. or for want of a better name FSF Kent aka (Free
Software Foundation - Kent Branch) </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>so as it stands we have ICMP, Faversham LUG I've got
nothing against what seams to be happen that rather than
being a "Roadshow" Klug more of a communications link like <a
moz-do-not-send="true" href="http://lug.org.uk">lug.org.uk</a>
but just for Kent.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Does UKC Computer Society still exist, <a
moz-do-not-send="true" href="http://compsoc.co.uk/">http://compsoc.co.uk/</a> oh
I guess not, but if you give right people a nudge you may be
able to revive it/get some support, I'm sure nobody would
mind.... From talking to some of them last summer at the
BarCamp Canterbury they are still around and are at least
worth contacting. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>If you want to be a "Active" Student Society, I
would suggest a regular weekly (During term time anyway)
meet and go from there.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>If you then want to organise extra events for the wider
community then go ahead.</div>
