I've looked for the motherboard booklet high and low. It is bound to
turn up just as Gavin takes it away tomorrow :-)

Regarding the BIOS. That's the problem, nothing is bootable, nothing
on the screen, no start-up, no access to CD/DVD R/W drive so I can't
even boot to a 'live' distro. 'tis dead man. Just the
dah-dit-dit-dit.

But I have great faith in Gavin, he's been in touch and will drop in
tomorrow afternoon. Such excellent service.
Good morning all,

Gavin, whom I think lives in Birchington, built me a
splendid AMD64
desktop several years ago. He also partakes of this group
frequently too.

I need to talk to him now because that PC failed to boot
yesterday.
After half a dozen burps around the HD it fails with a
dah-dit-dit-dit
bleep.

Can someone, Gavin preferably, let me have his contact
details as we
need to arrange for him to bend his expertise to fixing
it.

Thanks in advance.
The beep sequence can tell you what has failed. Have a look up
for your BIOS and you can tell what you need to buy.<span
