Kristof,

Further progress wrt my broadband link.

I think that BT have at last cleaned up the connection and I have done 
some work here so the downstream noise margin is now around 26db and 
remains at this level. Should be OK now, even at busy periods.

The local wiring in my house was loosing me approx 3db. The biggest 
local loss (around 6db) was caused by the modem surge suppressor which 
is part of a Belkin mains socket block. It worked OK with a standard 
modem, but is obviously not OK for ADSL.
