Hi,

Just wanted to remind people that I'm thinking of doing a demo of basic
sound recording and editing using linux in a week's time. I would be
showing people:

- (maybe) simple recording using audacity / rezound.
- how to set up the jack sound server, which is what most people use for
pro audio work on linux.
- more advanced recording and mixing using ardour, including recording
multiple tracks, adding effects, editing tracks etc.
- (possibly) mastering using jamin (I am no expert on this but could
show people the basics of how to set up the program and how it works).
- simple midi work using a virtual keyboard with soft synths.
- (possibly) a very quick look at Csound, which is a programming
language designed for designing your own digital instruments.

Not sure how long all this would take - it would depend on how much
detail people wanted me to go into in each part how much of the above I
could get through in one evening, but I'm thinking it's probably better
not to make it more than an hour and a half to two hours, and have time
to have a drink afterwards.

I've decided it would be easier to do the demo in my flat rather than at
the Basement. I have a CRT monitor I can attach to my laptop so people
can see better what I'm doing. I'll be starting around 8pm. If you let
me know that you're coming, I'll make sure we don't start without you.
Feel free to bring any friends you think might be interested. My address is:

Flat 16,
54 Regent Street
Lancaster.
