Hi all, another small announcement for you -

We've got a really cool livecoding trio coming up to play outside of
FACT on Friday night. They are:

http://slub.org/

They project their terminals while they play and you can see them
building the songs up, live (they programme in Haskell, I believe). The
music is pretty good! And its an interesting thing to see, kind of
different from your average Ableton laptop set :)

Official FACT copy about the event below.

Come by if you can! I was going to promote this at the DIY How Why event
the other weekend (as well as just come by to participate!) but I was
ill so couldn't make it :( Spread the word...

Cheers,
H

MEDIA FACADES FESTIVAL: Evening of Code - Livecoding with Slub and
Julius Popp

Friday, September 3, 8.00pm - 10.30pm
Ropewalks Square, outside of FACT

Media Facades Festival is a brand new European-wide public realm
festival connecting seven European cities: Berlin, Brussels, Helsinki,
Budapest, Linz, Madrid and Liverpool. In Liverpool, the festival is
hosted and programmed by FACT and we have commissioned a series of
specially developed interactive screenings and art projects.

This evening's outdoor event is based around CODE - computer nerds and
code geeks, come out! Featuring:

LIVECODING PERFORMANCE WITH SLUB

A chance to watch a band of computer programmers make electronic music
from text-based code, live in front of audiences. Slub have performed
widely including at Netaudio, Sonar, Sonic Acts, Ars Electronica, STRP,
Club Transmediale, Ultrasound and the Secret Garden Party. The code will
be projected onto the back off FACT's rear facade and played out of
FACT's sound system.

JULIUS POPP - COMMISSION FOR A NEW OUTDOOR SCREEN AT FACT

Launching a brand new permanent screen on the front of the FACT
building, artist/technologist Julius Popp has been commissioned to
create a new piece that uses'falling' text. Bit.Code (screen version) is
a project made for low-resolution screens, where scrolling black and
white pixels pause at regular intervals to display frequently used key
words taken from recent web feeds of current news sites. The work forms
a part of the artist's 'Bit' series, creating visuals metaphors for how
information online is presented or created.

You can see a previous piece of work from Julius Popp's 'Bit' series below:
