Yes, I'll echo that thanks, Hakim.  It was indeed interesting and
inspiring.


We were talking about mesh networks at the end of the talk and in the
pub.  I thought I would provide a link to B.A.T.M.A.N. which is quite
advanced and seems to be a good, if not the best contender for providing
a mesh network to replace the Internet:

I would also note that when the old analogue TV frequencies are opened
up, à la

  http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/2011/09/ofcom-progresses-with-new-wireless-technology/

it will allow radio technology that can be used to implement such a
network much more easily than we can with 2.4GHz, or even 5GHz Wi-Fi.
