Hi,

This is the obligatory hello message then. I've been using Linux since about Mandrake 9.0 (I tend to remember release versions more than dates) and have since seen the light and am now a evangelical Ubuntu/Gnome user. I've not had much of an install path except for MDK -> (failed) attempt at Slack -> Ubuntu, but I absolutely SWEAR by Damn Small Linux as a rescue-CD distro - and it's based on Debian. And thus it rocks. I guess it'd be nice as a hard-installed distro too.

After looking for a Livlug on lug.org.uk and finding the Liv Uni one and this one with a kind of empty homepage a year or so ago now, I kind of thought this lug was 'vapourware', but since hearing about it in a recent LugRadio episode, seems I was wrong, which is great. And let's hope LXF get you/us printed in the lug map next issue.

For those (if any!) of you don't know what LugRadio is, I suggest you visit http://www.lugradio.org/ - Top Quality Linuxness to be had there. Contains Language. (inside joke hidden in there somewhere, for the lugradio faithful)

Anyway, I basically use Linux for fun - something to learn Python with, and something to show off. I have used it in the past (unadvisedly!) as a webserver for a mini blog host I setup for friends, a Shoutcast radio station (yes I know, I should've used IceCast) and other hobbyist delights.

At the moment I'm trying to understand Pygame to develop a clone of Uplink (imitation the sincerest form of flattery and all that...)

Looking foward to having somewhere to talk about the greatest alt OS around (and possibly best mainstream). Will be interesting to see how many other newbies are LugRadio-ites.

Cheers,

Chris (currently leeching all the free internet I can get my hands on from other people...)

ps: To my knowledge, I'm not related to Dave Neary the Gnome hacker. Might be a distant relative though.
