I'm still a novice in music generation so this goes far beyond my small
knowledge in this field. But this is definitely worthwhile information.
I will give rebirth a try this evening to see if I can understand how
it works.
thx
type="cite">Reason is VERY good (i've been using it extensively ever
since v1) however it's not that easy to get TB-303 like sounds out of
it. Since Jerome mentioned that he was looking for something similar to
the MC-303, ReBirth would have the sonic and sequential capability. As
someone who used to own a TB-303 I can attest that the sound of a
TB-303 comes from two main sections: The sound generation section (VCO,
VCF, Envelope and Accent) and the Sequencer. It's a 50/50 split...the
TB-303 trademark bouncy "wow" sound comes from the sequencer as it has
slide functions. Then for the typical acid lines, that's where the
sound generation makes it's mark. The TB-303 has an unusual -18 dB
filter and very unusual envelope and accent characteristics.

Anyway, that's a bit off topic!

The good thing is that you can link ReBirth and Reason together,
so you can get the best of both worlds :)
is cool but I haven't used it in years since Reason came out. It does
all the Rebirth stuff and so much more. Maybe Rebirth is better if you
have specific needs though. You might not need all the other stuff
Reason does. As for audio in WINE, I believe it's pretty good. It just
links to ALSA. I've never tried it with JACK but that would be the best
option if available, so you can make music with other programs at the
same time. Lots of people run VST plugins with WINE and it uses this
method. I believe it's quite good.

On a slightly related note. I've just been playing with Spotify the
last week in WINE. That's an audio player and relies on the audio
interface a lot. It plays perfectly and sounds good. Recording audio
into WINE might be different with the latency but playback is fine. I
reckon it's worth trying. You'll only be using playback with something
like Rebirth anyway.

Good luck with it!

well I'm gonna give lmms a go when I get back home later, see
it my desktop can handle it ;)

ahh then ReBirth would be right up your street then. as far as
using in Linux, I would imagine WINE will work...but I dunno how well
WINE handles audio stuff.

The sequncing method in ReBirth may take some getting used to
though!

Do you manage to use Rebirth under linux ? I don't know TB-303, TR-808
and TR-909 but I played a bit a long time ago with a MC-303 and this is
the kind of sound I'm looking for.
