I'd certainly be interested in that. I've always meant to look at Asterisk and use it but somehow never found time. I know a lot of people who swear by it.

Sounds cool, anyone agree?

Dan

As mentioned to Dan last time we met, I keep on thinking of giving a talk/intro to Asterisk and the Asterisk eco system - if there is enough interest. However, I don't know if I will get enough time by next week to put together a presentation.

First off - is there any interest in this?
P.S. - For those who don't know, Asterisk is a FOSS PBX in software - a phone system implemented fully(ish) in software. It runs on Linux, on a normal pc (or some alternatives). You can connect SIP hardware phones to it, you can connect SIP software phones to it, you can connect normal analog phones, you can connect it to regular phone lines (POTS), you can connect it to ISDN lines, T1, E1 lines (professional type lines), SIP trunks over the internet, HAM radio equipment, mobile phones - and pretty much everything else you can think of (well, almost :-) )

Thanks for the info Bob. I'll take a look at this and do the
announcements this time. I don't mind.

Does anybody want to give a talk or run some kind of demo for this
month? If not perhaps we should head straight to the pub, and inform LSC
of that (good point!). I'd be happy to have a talk but don't have
anything planned myself.
Thoughts?
I'm useless at writing the announcement emails for the events I
already organise, so don't think it wise to offer to write any more :-)

However, I'm happy to forward on any announcement that arrives on
this list to some of the others I'm on - the NW Digital Communities
announcements [1] list is the one that I mentioned during the last
meeting, but there's also GeekUp [2] and given that I spam^h post
the Maker Night announcements to LivLUG I don't see why the LivLUG
announcements shouldn't go to the DoES Liverpool list [3] too :-)

Cheers,
Hi all,

I just wanted to send an email about next week's meeting. Could someone
else make the announcements, etc? I'd like to relinquish responsibility
this month for two reasons, (1) I've got my masters thesis to write, and
(2) I think it's good if we aren't beholden to one particular person for
announcements, organisation, etc. The lists I send to are as follows:

1. This one

2. The Liverpool Social Centre announcement list
https://lists.riseup.net/www/info/liverpoolsfannounce

3. Manchester Free-Software
https://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/fsuk-manchester

During the meeting at the beginning of this month, Adrian mentioned
another local list for geek events in the North-West but I forget what
it was? For that matter, does anybody else have any suggestions for
where meeting announcements could be made?

And on the subject of the announcement, is anyone intending to give a
talk next week, that can be announced? :-)

If you guys choose not to meet at the social centre I feel it is

imperative that someone let Maria<nfnmaria@riseup.net> <mailto:nfnmaria@riseup.net> know so that a

key-holder from the social centre doesn't have to come down and open the
basement needlessly. I know this has happened in the past and I feel
really guilty about it so I'd like to ensure we don't let them down
again :-)

Unfortunately I won't be there next week due to the aforementioned
thesis but I hope you have a good meeting :-)

Bob

PS, If whoever makes the announcement copies my email from last month,
please make sure to check the footnotes (I forgot to ;-)
