I'll lend a hand with installing new machines or fixing old ones Bob, I know you've done a lot of work in the past. Let me know what they say. Now that I'm in town I can always walk down easily :)

Dan
Just to keep everyone in the loop as I'm acting under the banner of the
LUG, I've just sent the attached email regarding the computers in the
LSC, to their list. I'll keep you all informed of developments.
Subject: Computers in the Social Centre
Hi all,

In the past we of the Linux User Group (LUG) have done work on the
computers in the Social Centre. In particular, we set up two computers
for general use in the main area of the basement and also set up a
computer in the office.

Since then, there have been some changes. Most obviously, the computers
have moved from the wall next to the cafe area, to the far end of the
basement behind the speakers. There have also been changes to the
computers themselves, both hardware and software.

Recently, someone at the centre commented to us that it would be useful
to have one of the computers display through the projector. Also, some
new-looking HP computers have appeared under the table which seem
appropriate to replace the existing computers.

We (I :-) would like to help sort this out. It would seem prudent to
coordinate with the person (or persons) who have been dealing with the
technical side of the computers, in particular with the hardware and
software changes. Also, more generally I'm wondering if it would be a
good idea to have some communication with the collective as a whole on
what is needed and wanted from the computers that we might be able to
help with?

So if I might ask, firstly are there any particular people who have been
dealing with the computers since we set them up that we should talk to?

Secondly, would members of the collective like to meet with myself, as a
LUG representative, to discuss the computers? Would it be appropriate
to have such a discussion at a monthly Social Centre meeting?

Kind regards,

Bob
