Now my bit.     

During an electrical storm Sunday night,  my nice new ethernet router/ 
ADSL modem got blasted ! Booh-hoo !

I only found out what was wrong when I re-installed my nasty little BT  
Voyager 100 modem  which
is no good for Linux.   A bit of a set-back,  but a new router is on order.
