Nah not really.  I've heard of people using open troughs of mercury as
speaker cables.  They were Japanese.

There used to be a bunch of guys who built class A power amps with such huge
reservoir capacitor banks that you had to get it home from their factory
within a day or two because the inrush current to a fully discharged amp was
so much that no domestic mains could supply it.  They charged it by cranking
up the power using a several KVA variac over a rather long period.
