[Malvern] MEDIA MANAGER

I've alot of media ... maybe 1 tb.
It is all types books, pdfs, music, mp3, video etc
I want a single manager for it all to both manage the library and play or display the media
I have not been excited by the Tv type media players cos they sem to takeover the entire pc.
Is there anything like gmusicbrowser, amorok, movie player, VLC type that will manage a library of differnet types of media AND play or display them?
Or am i limited to the TV media player encroaching stuff?
Also, seems to me, that when i use gmusicbrowser or banshee to manage my music ( I have about 25,000 tracks) that they have a high processor profile when doing nothing...I get teh impression that it is a resource hog or the external 1tb drive is.... Am I dreaming..or is it so?
