Good comment.

I'm more concerned about the mesh protocol/system itself for a small
area. Can it be used to avoid congestion on one central node if you want
to have say 100 or so WiFi devices connect to a wired lan?!

And can you have the mesh spread across multiple channels with multiple
nodes connected to a wired network?
