UoN Secure generally works well for me on Ubuntu Netbook (Jaunty, I think - it's not with me), using wicd..

There are some areas (and thinking about it, Pope is one) where the routers don't seem to show the network name consistenly (so if I look at the list of available networks I don't see UoN-Secure, but a list of individual router names). I can still usually connect to one of these using the same credentials as UoN Secure. It may be worth checking if this is the case and talking to the IT rep in the building to see if s/he knows whether there are any issues with routers.

Alternatively, mail IT helpdesk and ask specifically whether Networks Team are aware of any issues. That should get the question routed to the right area, and they aren't all Windows fans in there!

Hey there,

I was wondering if there're any conceivable reasons as to why University of Nottingham's UoN-secure doesn't work quite well with Ubuntu?

There are parts of the campus my wireless works perfectly with, and then in some regions (such as the Pope Building), the DHCP takes absolutely forever before timing out.

Surprisingly, it connects within seconds on my Win7 partition :S

here's a partial log of the DHCP process:
Hope that helps.. I run Ubuntu x64 10.10 on a BCM4312 b/g card.
PS. I've tried the Cripps help centre once, but they seem to be somewhat useless when it comes to such problems, all they did was try to connect to different accounts on this computer for about an hour and a half, and gave me back the laptop saying there's nothing they can do. I would've thought they would check some logs in the very least. Sorry if I seem a bit hostile.
