<p>I'm guessing you haven't had to use 'glob' before. It's a bash feature that will re expand for you. Try piping through glob before xargs and all should be well.</p>

I've just been blundering through a few "wild ones" with bash for<br>

result works fine, but it is far from neat or elegant. Worse still, the<br>

Perhaps some of the gnu tools need a tidy-up after 30 years! (With some<br>
care to maintain backwards compatibility...)<br>
