<p>Hi Martin and Vadim,</p>
It was good to sit in with you all last Thursday night. We have
moved from BT to TalkTalk and are now with Vodafone over similar
Broadband issues. Again, as Martin said, if you can get to talk with
an adviser you can usually get a more sensible deal!
<p>Thank you both for your help with the ACEPC AK2 problem. Here's
how things got solved.</p>
<p>As you suggested, instead of using a 2GB USB stick I formatted a
Sony 8 GB USB stick with Mint 20.1 <br>
</p>
<p><u>Where I might have gone wrong</u> was when I went into the
BIOS and highlighted it to boot from the USB stick I may not have
actually set it to <u>#1 in the booting order</u>. So that when I
saved and exited it was still left to boot from the HDD or from
one of the other options. I also enabled, or disabled (can't
remember which now!), one of the other options Martin suggested in
the BIOS. <br>
</p>
<p>When I carefully made sure it was #1 in the booting order, then
saved and exited, it began to boot in properly to Mint 20.1!! <br>
</p>
<p>I was thrilled and thankful that there hadn't been any damage to
the computer, as I had mistakenly feared.</p>
<p>Thank you both so much for taking time to help me and point me in
the direction of getting everything solved. Of course, I feel
quite foolish at having made such an elementary mistake which then
led me to buy another small computer. However, I am very pleased
with my Mintbox 2 Pro which has the same specifications as the
ACEPC AK2. It was a little more expensive but it is <u>less than
half the size and is completely silent</u> (the AK2 does have a
fan which gives off a little sound). Mintbox 2 Pro comes with
Realtek ALC1150 HD audio codec so the audio output will allow
playing of Digital 7.1 channels. Putting on my gaming headset I've
enjoyed the 5.1 surround sound of the Lord of the Rings cycle
DVDs!</p>
<p>The AK2. apparently, will do 7.1 through the HDMI lead (so a
review says) but I gave my 5.1 Logitech set up to my grandson some
weeks ago, so I couldn't check whether the AK2 is quite the same.</p>
<p>I've connected the AK2 to our downstairs TV and we now use it to
watch particular Youtube channels - so it is in use and not
completely wasted money. <br>
</p>
<p>Again, thank you all. I'll keep in touch more often.</p>
<p>With best wishes to you all,</p>
<p>Nic<br>

<div>There probably should be a talk, but I don't think there is
anything planned. Things we could discuss:</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Why is Ubiqiti to flamin' expensive?</li>
<li>Is TP-Link Omada a viable alternative? (Answer: almost,
but not quite)</li>
<li>Why not just configure OpenWRT as a "dumb" AP and be
done with it?<br>
</li>
<li>If we can send a rocket into space carrying a robot,
that carries a robot, that also carries a robot that can
fly around Mars; why can't we have printers that *JUST
WORK*?</li>
<li>If someone screams in 5G, is there any sound after the
CGNAT traversal and contention induced latency?</li>
<li>Are air fryers an active threat to your cyber-security?</li>
<li>If you've decided to solve your SSO issues with MS's
B2CLogin solution, congratulations! Now you have two
problems.</li>
<li>Whatever else you happen to bring along<br>
</li>
</ul>

<div>
<div>Grab some drinks and nibbles, pull up an opinion
(probably best if it's your own, but it doesn't have to be)
and feel free to join in. Even if it is to just say "Hi!"<br>

All welcome & stay safe!</div>
