Does anyone have an estimate of the number of people who may turn up? This may rule pubs in or out.

Well yeah - All the venue suggestions are valid.

I can't say I'm familiar with the town centre pubs (Stanley Arms, Market
Tavern)
I know the Black Horse but it can get a bit cramped in there.

My requirements would be:
1) Small enough to find people but large enough to sit in the same area.
2) No blaring music, so you can hold a conversation.
3) Decent beer.

The benefits of the Greygfriar were: plenty of room and no loud music.
