Hi the Tablet mentioned by Frank are B&N Nook, though end of life products
have extremely good specs for the money, and support Google Play Store.

My Bruv and Sis-in-law both have a 7" version, whilst I have the 9"
version, from my perspective it has largely replaced a conventention
PC/Laptop and can use my Raspberry Pi for the times I need a PC.........

This may not be very interesting for you because eckolink is a VOIP
application for radio amateurs. It loads up on my tablet easily and I am
doing aateur radio calls over the internet.
I used echolink about 10 years ago, but then left it alone. I heard of a
newish Link station at Ferring and am back in my childhood again with
"radio". If you look on the web for Ferring Link station, you will see what
I am talking about!
I must call the Woodlands tomorrow and see whether anything has been done
re the wifi. I will let you know and we then have to consider our next
move. Pun not intended. Pity about losing the TV but we have to do
something to keep our wifi link to the internet.
Had a word fro Martin Webb re a tablet like the one Brian Webb uses. He
seems to have bought it cheap at £80 with 64Gb of memory.
Suggestions welcome!
Frank
