the problem is that the corps with MONEY patent everything and then sue
anyone (infringing or otherwise) who competes with them. this keeps them
in court and not producing products.

If they win they often end up buying the smaller comany, and if they
lose, they sue with another bogus patent to keep the small companys
products off the shelves longer still.

If patenting was free, it might be fairer.
