php.net has a decent tutorial and plenty of docs.

Just to throw some some mud into the cake, the slug server also has
mod_perl (http://perl.apache.org)

(Server: Apache/1.3.23 (Unix)  (Red-Hat/Linux) PHP/4.1.2 mod_perl/1.26)

So you could always use perl (by itself or with something like
www.template-toolkit.org) to construct the pages dynamically...
