this did nothing, even as superuser

What I mean is, the BootX Control Panel allows me to cleanly shut down
the Mac, and boot into Linux. But to get back to the Mac from Linux, I
seem to need to power the thing off, then start it up again. Isn't there
an easier way?

Done that. How do I get out of 'su' when I've finished with it? Is 'su' 
the same as root?
