There is no rpm. When I look at the package using the File Roller to
de/uncompress it, there are maybe forty files at the top level, mostly
readmes and change logs, and then directories .. backend, doc, frontend,
etc.

In the readme, it says do this:

./configure
make
make install

then
man sane, which I presume runs the man page for sane.

It also says remove the sane components that are already there before you
start using your package manager.

I can't seem to find the sane backend in my package manager, but I've
removed the front ends.

So, now, where do I expand the sane stuff before I start with configure,
and make and so on. It says it'll put stuff where it should go, but surely
I need to start it somewhere.

When I looked for sane files, they seemed to be in usr/share/doc/......
but that, surely, is a place for documentation

Steve, the rpm stuff is good but I have the same problem, where do I put
the files before I start.

Cheers
J

PS. I hope this works after all this :-)
