It's all about the repositories... you may find Kino in the extras/livna 
repositories... which you may not have in /etc/yum/repos.d/

http://www.fedorafaq.org and that stanley guy have a recommended list of 
repositories... if it's not in those then chances are you're right about 
having to do it some other more rubbish way.
