I think I asked the above question very badly.  Please let me try again.

If I right click on the launcher icon for OpenOffice Writer, it says 
that the command to launch Writer is:
openoffice.org-2.0 -writer %U
Having installed OpenOffice 2.0.2, this is not working.  I have changed 
the command to:
/opt/openoffice.org1.0/program/soffice

a)  is this a sensible thing to do?
b) what does "openoffice.org-2.0 -writer %U", the original command, mean?
