I use Audacity extensively for recording; xmms for playing a playlist; 
Realplayer for listening to the radio.  If any of those are of interest, 
then yes.  Also have a certain amount of background info/knowledge on 
sound, sound recording, mics, speakers (monitors, in the trade), bit 
rate, sample rate, etc.  Can rip CD and convert to MP3 simply.  That's 
about it.  However, shan't be here for December (Diane having an 
operation on her hand on 1st Dec. at Royal London Hospital - i.e. in 
London), and January is a probability but not yet a cert.
