Hi ppl

Thanks for listening to the webcam mumble yesterday.

The camera itself is back up and working here
<http://www.johnallsopp.co.uk/scarboroughWebcam.php4>, and the writeup
about it is here
<http://www.johnallsopp.co.uk/blog200611.php4#webcam>. Steve, if you
want to put a link to that blog entry onto the SLUG website, that's
fine, saves you setting up a page, etc.

Talking to David, I'm back to thinking about how to set up a
'beginners class', and I'm back to my original thoughts on the
subject, which were to take the first six months of meetings Jan -
June and go through issues about installation and use of Linux. I
think my original plan didn't get them Linux installed until month
three, and they had to install it, which prompted Steve, I think, to
say, in essence, let's have an installfest and then maybe another
session and they are sorted. I came to a stop with that, but having
spoken again with David I'm back to my original thoughts. We haven't
done an installfest, our meeting place doesn't have a web connection
(although that's under discussion), and Linux users need to be brought
into the hands-on culture otherwise they'll either fail, or always be
back with "this isn't perfect" type questions. So I'll probably think
on that for January.

Also, talking to Martin, I think we'll start LPI 102
<http://www.lpi.org/en/lpi/english/certification/the_lpic_program/exam_102_detailed_objectives>,
in January too, and start a new LPI 101. So the way is open for
newbies wanting a faster route to take 101 and 102 at the same time.
I'll try to recruit newbies into that with some stuff in the press,
but if you know anyone who would be interested then let them know.

Next month's meeting is supposed to be (if we go with the Linux Format
thing) about Fedora 6, so it's possible I'll bring my machine back if
the article raises any interesting points.

If I succeed in bringing my friend along and manage to get some DJ
software up and running, I may well bring that along too. We'll see,
as you know my history of getting things working isn't that great.

Thanks for a good night.

Cheers
J
