Well that's just it. The DVD's in the drive, and an icon's appeared on
the desktop which, when I right click it gives me the option to
unmount it. But /media is empty, as is /mnt.

mount gives me:
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 on / type ext3 (rw)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
/dev/sda1 on /boot type ext3 (rw)
tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
none on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc (rw)
sunrpc on /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs type rpc_pipefs (rw)

so is it really mounted as the top line? That doesn't look like
something I can use in a dar instruction, it lookg like it'll be
different every time. Or might I be wrong about that?

It just seems a bit unexpected .. I expected it in /mount or /media.
WTF's /dev/mapper?

J
