[SLUG] LAN

Advice needed, 
What's the easiest way to connect my Win XP m/c to my Linux Suse m/c as a small nerwork, including "Broadband"? I have no Lan cards installed and don't want the expence of "wireless" I have seen USB - USB bridging data cables, but can't find out if they work between the OSs.
any ideas?
