[sclug] HELP X Mandrake 9.1

i cant really say much without seeing the log file but if it comes up with 
any of the following comments on the left (WW), (EE) or (??) there the ones 
to start off with.
Im not entirely sure if this log file will help because you said it starts 
up the log in but hangs when truing to get into the user space and this may 
exclude problems with the XFree setup, but it a good place to start.
If not have a look around for any of the KDE/GNOME files because they may 
get you on the right track
