As a more general point I would strongly advise against the use of Javascript
for pages to be made available to the general public.

I do not wish to get heavily involved in a heated debate, or list a 100
reasons not to use Javascript. I will just list one general reason not to use
Javascript.

Access : To explain all the issues of accessablity I will not, but just leave
you with this thought. Web Crawling Robots like Googlebot have a long track
record of hating Javascript, to the extent that they do not run/use
Javascript.

On the plus side, the best way to make friends with a Web Crawler is to
ensure that pages are W3C compliant. In fact I will stick my neck out
further and add that following the spirit of W3C compliance can increase
 your search engine page ranking.
