Hi All

Just a quick note to say thanks for the various useful hints on setting up my
WIFI. I did a lot of researching to find the best price + linux compatibility
& eventually bought:

A linksys Cable / Wireless / Cat5 Hub / Router for around ?80
2 x Netgear PCMCIA Wireless cards for around ?30 each

I bought them using Amazon and the goods arrived the next day.

Setup was a doddle - mandrake 9.1 instantly recognised the new cards when I
pulled replaced the wired nics. The router has a browser based admin
interface. Within about 10min I was surfing the net wirelessly.

I also set up port forwarding so I can ssh into my laptop through the router
from outside of my network.

I still need to restrict access to my MAC addresses only and look at how to
set up the SSID thingy.

The other thing I was wondering is if there are any (kde based?) tools that
will show me the signal strength etc for my connection?

Cheers

Tim
