One other thing that may catch you out:

The ntl modem I have remembers your network cards mac address, so if you plan 
to switch machines (e.g. setup the account initially on a borrowed windoze 
laptop and then plug in your desktop after), you may need to power the modem 
off for a couple of minutes, then plug in your new nic and it should do a 
dhcp offer to it.
