As the subject says, have one of these laptops free to a good home.  It posts but wont load an operating system, sounds like the hard disk has the click of death.

I am sure that you can either replace the HD or just boot from an Ubuntu Live CD (etc..).

Might be of use to someone, otherwise its getting chucked.
