The MTA at 212.69.217.12 is requiring some specific conformance to
RFC2822 by submitted messages and, because it's getting a message which
does not conform, it's rejecting it.

How is your friend sending the message?

When you say "this" email address, do you mean patrick at kirks.net? If so,
then 212.69.217.12 is presumably in the sender's environment
(kirks.net's only listed MX being 212.69.195.55) and is therefore well
outside of your control.

Do you have the Received: headers from an article sent to your work
address from the same environment that's getting the above error
message? An examination of them will provide at least some clues as to
the sequence of MTAs involved. (In fact, the complete headers for such a
message may prove even more illuminating.)
