I'm running an IBM T42 thinkpad. It has an Intel 1500MHz, 512MB of RAM and a 
Radeon mobility using the free driver.

I moved to Kubuntu a while ago and couldn't be happier, the performance 
difference between this and Gentoo (my previous distro) is negligible and it 
is really well tweaked so that lots of things work perfectly.

With AIGLX and Beryl it's a little bit sluggish when a lot is going on, but I 
was surprised with how well it all runs on DRI.
