That's mostly normal for Carphone Warehouse; I've read that because they're
large enough and sell from many different telcos it's in their interest to
only keep unlocked phones in stock (i.e. so they can be sold with different
SIMs as required) and the telcos have agreed that.

Check the USB device compatibility list <http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/>.
I'm pretty sure they're much of a muchness; I bought a cheapo USB bluetooth
dongle from Aldi (the supermarket) and it worked out of the box with FC8.

Once the Bluetooth stack is installed, and the devices are paired, you can
just browse to the phone using Nautilus.
