[sclug] O2 mobile broadband and BT Openzone under Linux

Hi all,

I'm using an O2 mobile broadband dongle with Ubuntu (Karmic)
which, after jumping through a few hoops (usb_modeswitch and
changing the default settings in NetworkManager for the O2
parameters) works as well as can be expected in the wilds of
Scotland (I'm currently sitting in a layby off the A99 about
10 km south of Wick with a good connection; it all falls to
pieces north of Wick though).

Officially the service is only supported on Windows and the
Mac. With it you're also supposed to get access to TheCloud
and BT Openzone but this is only officially supported on
Windows (not even on OS X yet); the connection manager software
which O2 installs for Windows deals with the login to those Wifi
networks somehow.

Anybody got any clues as to if and how it's possible to
connect to these from Linux?

Ed.
