Networking under any Unix varient is far superior than under Windows. It's pretty easy to set up packet forwarding etc. Plus, you don't have to fight with Windows' insufficient packet manager. Do a google search for Linux Router Project and see what they come up with. What ADSL modem do you have? The Linux drivers are superb for the Alcatel USB modems, I hear. If you have a spare 486/P100 or you know a friend with one you might like to try installing SmoothWall on it. I've had great success with this before, and it's a very cheap way of getting several computers to share one internet connection. --jaa __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I use her onlt as a toy to play with and sometimes do my work on. Emily is a AMD K6 350MHz, with only 63MB. She acts as a server running both FTP, Apahce and SSH servers on her. Soon she'll be a internet router but one thing at a time. Terry on the other hand is a work horse. Intel Pentium 1.4GHz shes my only laptop and the one i do most of my work on. Shes running BlackBox, trying to keep it to a minimal i dont have KDE or Gnome on her. The web site was what can be produced if you lock your self in a room with only a laptop and 48-hours. I'll be back at work on Friday, and I'll have a look for differences in the URLs concerned. For those that haven't a clue what the issue is, Opera sees link as a link to "/?key=value" not "script.php?key=value". This has only come to my attention on the LUG site, and is not apparent on any of my own servers AFAIK. If anyone has any experience of this kind of fault, I for one would like to know of the cause. -- David Tillotson From standrews at mailman.lug.org.uk Sun Dec 29 01:02:00 2002 From: standrews at mailman.lug.org.uk (David Tillotson) Date: Sun Dec 29 01:02:00 2002 Subject: [StAndrews and Fife LUG] New Updates! Looks like it's in the >member.php script - I'll keep you informed. Just for the record, I have found the problem! It's down to an undocumented error in the way that Opera 6.05 handles the output of PHP scripts. I only upgraded my home copy to 6.05, hence not seeing it at work, and installing 7.0beta2 or 6.01 fixes it! BTW - While tracking this down, I ran the page through the W3C validator, and there are a few "no-nos" in there (but no show-stoppers). I have found this tool invaluable at work, and would recommend it to anyone serious about web-site development (and yes, I am a stickler for pure, compliant HTML, much to the annoyance of my cow-orkers!) -- David Tillotson From standrews at mailman.lug.org.uk Sun Dec 29 14:50:00 2002 From: standrews at mailman.lug.org.uk (Stuart Anderson) Date: Sun Dec 29 14:50:00 2002 Subject: [StAndrews and Fife LUG] New Updates! Thanks David, Ive had a look threw all the php pages and come you were right the only place this seems to be the case is on the members.php page. So i have replaces all links that appeard like link to now appear like link so with any luck i think that should solve the problem? Something else i wanted to say, ive already ran the pages threw a spell cheacker BUT they dont find words in the wrong place. If you find any worlds that are wrong spelling or are just the wrong word can you post them and the page there on to the list? To make it easy to find just make the subject "Spelling Cock Ups" That goes to anyone who finds errors.
