SLUGs,

I've got a busy week of LINUX related shenanigans planned.

Hopefully by the time of the LUG meet on Thursday I will be able to give you
an objective view on Red Hat 8.0 (My machine at home is (w)getting the ISO's
as I type). Now I know a lot of you guys frown on Red Hat by virtue of the
companies size and their popularity amongst the suited fraternity and their
approach to the community these days, however, if you encounter LINUX in the
workplace it's more than likley that it'll be Red Hat. I feel it is
important to be aware of what Red Hat are doing. Something as trivial as a
standard looking theme for each interface toolkit/wm (GTK, Nautilus,
Sawfish, Metacity and KDE) and a unified "start" menu for Gnome and KDE
makes a hell of an impact for suits. Bluecurve may be boring as hell, but
coupled with some pretty new icons it could be as bigger factor in business
desktop LINUX adoption as the success of Sun StarOffice 6.0.

Anyhow, I'll give you my thoughts once I've looked at it in earnest.

2nd up this week will be looking heavily into programs in, and around,
StarOffice 6.0. In particular I have a view to integrating StarOffice into
business systems and especially the feasability of developing some Document
Management tools into a LINUX based office environment.

Part of me is sure someone out there must already be doing some document
management for StarOffice. If anyone knows of such a thing please let me
know!
