SLUGS,

Incase you haven't seen it on Slashdot or the Register yet:

HP have fired Bruce Perens (former Debian project leader and open source
advocate) after he ignored several warnings about "Microsoft Baiting".

There is some debate on Slashdot as to whether HP came under pressure from
Microsoft to do this (the combined HP & Compaq is now not only Microsofts
single biggest customer they are also the single biggest Microsoft
reseller).

It's odd that while on the one hand HP are dropping Microsoft Works in
favour of Corel Office as their default bundled office package (something
Microsoft is v. upset about) but they are firing Bruce for basically being a
bit embarresing and straining their relationship with M$FT.

THe practical upshot of this all is that Bruce is now available as a
consultant - any businesses out their running Debian could do a lot worse
than hire him!

- Geoff
