... trouble is when I use this to boot to a build CD there is _no_ network
support (No PCI?). soooo, how am I going to do network update to my build
without a network :/

Quick breakdown:

ide=nodma - Disable DMA access for harddrives. This is an option when
building
the kernel (to enable it) - Just leave it off.

pci=off - The lappy doesn't have a PCI bus, so no need to enable support for
it (it obviously fecks up when probing). Again, this is an option in the
kernel build around the same area as 'ISA bus' and 'MCA support'
