[Sussex] An odd question....

Adam,

I currently feel in the same situation as you, I'm in the 2nd year of A
levels, (wanting to get out as fast as i can!), exams around the
corner... compleatly bored.
I two have thought of the options of further education etc... I've
looked at all uni courses, and as lots of people are going to have
degrees even more so when we finish uni, I wanted a degree with an edge.
I've choosen a 4 year sandwich course with a year in industry, the year
in industry is a guarenteed year in work. Gaining experience, earning
cash (yay!) and getting a feel for a job.
The take up on sandwich courses is quite low and are only offered by a
minority of unis.. so when it comes to "Get a job" time.. the employer
may have to make a decision over Joe Bloggs with a degree in computer
science, or Tom Ellis with a degree in computer science but also with a
years training at Sun/IBM/whoever.
Just imho and from a friend i have working and recruiting for a large
software company, she's told me that when they have all the applications
the gather all the degree ones together, and throw more thann half of
them away if they have no job experience, then the look thro and
consider non degree applicants based on their experience... she said its
usually 50/50 to staff with and without degrees.
