The Guildford branch of the British Computer Society runs free evening talks
every month.  This month's is:

Thursday 23 January 2003 8pm

LINUX: MOVING INTO THE MAINSTREAM

Roger Whittaker, Technical Consultant, SuSE Linux Ltd.

This presentation will look at the history and growth of the Linux operating
system since its beginning in 1991 and more generally at the open source
method of software development and why it has been so productive of good
software. The growing acceptance of Linux and open source by business will
be examined and analysed. The capabilities, strengths and advantages will be
described and the reasons for the inevitability of its further growth will
be discussed.

BCS lectures take place at Surrey University in Lecture Theatre F.  For
