Debian users

Don't feel left out that Gentoo users have a new RC to play with KDE 3.1
is now available for early access. First I'll say that it is not an
official
Debian set of debs, but (judging from the URL) it is from with in the KDE
group. Its been back-ported to Woody's so as long as you've upgraded to
Woody you'll be fine. I upgraded to Sarge this weekend (thanks once again
for the bandwidth Geoff) and it's working fine on there - being playing with
it all last night.

To install:

1). If you're already using KDE under Debian then you'll need to remove it
    first. (See http://devel-home.kde.org/~nolden/kde/README)

2). Make sure your running XFree86 4.2.1 (it in woody) or later. I wasn't
and KDE wouldn't start until I was.

3). Add the following line you your /etc/apt/sources.list file:
     deb http://devel-home.kde.org/~nolden/kde woody main

4). The install (also in the README) couldn't be easier.
    # apt-get update
    # apt-get install kdebase kdm

[When installing make kdm you're new default Display Manager]

5). Shutdown the Display manager of choice:
    # /etc/init.d/<dm> stop

[In my case it was xdm - but you might be using gdm or another]

6). Start the KDE Display Manager:
    # /etc/init.d/kdm start

7). Have fun
