[Sussex] Gentoo and laptop....

If you have a need to access the Windows partition frequently, You might 
want to bear in mind that  installing gentoo can tie up your machine for 
a considerable amount of time, obviously depending on the spec. I 
started from stage 2 and It was the best part of two days before I had a 
bootable system and it took a further  60 hours to install KDE. 
Admittedly my laptop is of the garden shed variety only having a 500meg 
processor and 128m ram.
