No flames please (i'm in newbie mode here) / correct me if I'm wrong.

Could it be that your problem with your scanner printer is similar to the
Artec Ultima scanner I have tried (without success).  That is, that these
devices are really scaled down hardware-wise (which makes them cheap).
Therefore, because most of the functions are handled in OS software (ie.
Mdoze), so that when you try to use them in Linux - you can't because the
drivers don't exist (Yet).

  (As the manufacturers are unwilling to come up with the goodies as far as
Linux goes).
