You could write your own.  It depends what you want to use it for.

I wrote one here thats integrated in to one of our internal applications.
When the user logs in we just store their current ip address in the
database.  The messaging screen then lets you select a user from this list
to "talk" to and one client can connect directly to another.

It also allows us to broadcast messages to all users that are logged in.
Ours is written in Visual Basic 6, and was easy to write.
