[Sussex] Whereis the boot and shutdown dialogue?

Further to conversations with Steve/Colin/Nick at the Worthing fair
today, below is what I've found in my /var/log/messages, by way of some
of the errors that I see on screen that show in the dialogue when
booting and shutting down.

There are more, but I'll have to use scroll lock and note them down long
hand, as I'm buggered if I can find where they are! (Oh, and sorry for
the long post, but I really don't know which bits are
relevant/irrelevant or which bit's I'd have to google for)

I've done my best to expand the different bits and numbered them for
clarity?? but I'm not sure if any of these "things" (would they be
called processes or something ?) are in any way detrimental to my system
i.e. do I need to bother to investigate further with any of them?

Any light that anyone can shed, would be much appreciated.

regards

John D.
